From the Executive Director

April 2017

It’s almost here!

We are only weeks away from the best gala event of the year: Evening Under the Stars, a benefit for AAP – Food Samaritans. We are so thrilled about this year’s celebration, and we know many of you are eagerly anticipating this special evening. It will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017. This spectacular event will feature a performance by Martha Reeves & the Vandellas. After their show, dancing will continue with DJ Jerry Bonham on the main stage followed by an amazing fireworks display.

We are thrilled to honor several community leaders and organizations at the event. These people have profoundly impacted the community, including Dr. Timothy Jochen and Lee Erwin (Jeannette Rockefeller Humanitarian Award), Gregg Selleck (Gloria Greene Inspiration Award), Laurie Weitz (Herb Lazenby Community Service Award) and Bob Pollock (posthumously) (Joanna Jakway Community Hero Award). The Corporate Angel Award will be given this year to Eisenhower Medical Center.

Evening Under the Stars is not only a fantastic evening of entertainment, but it is also the largest fundraiser AAP – Food Samaritans holds each year. We really need your support to help raise our operating capital to continue the hard work we do at AAP, so if you have not yet bought tickets to the event, please do so soon. Don’t miss out on this special evening - call us at 760-325-8481 or click here to purchase your tickets now

Invitations will go out soon for the 2017 Jeannette Rockefeller Angel Appreciation Dinner, to be held on April 23 (the location will be revealed upon RSVP). See the article later in this newsletter about this fun and important event.

Many thanks to Stanley Paul for recently donating his talents as he presented the Cole Porter tribute “Red Hot & Rich” several weeks ago. The enthusiastic crowd was charmed by Stanley’s talents and “behind the scenes” knowledge of Porter and his impact on the music world. Thank you to all of you that attended this “swellegant” evening!

Please contact me if you have any questions about the work we do at AAP. If you are one of our invaluable volunteers, please take a moment to call our office to make sure we have your contact information for upcoming events. And if you are not yet a volunteer but would like to volunteer your time, we would be thrilled to have you on board! Thank you for your continued support of our organization.

Sincerely,

Mark Anton, Executive Director

PS – AAP – Food Samaritans could not fulfill our mission without the dedication and support of the incredible people and organizations that support us. Without their caring and inspirational guidance, we would not be able to support the nutritional needs of those low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses in our community.
